Administration Trainee
Turn your year off into a year ahead — real experience, real skills, real pay, before university. Seeking a bright, motivated school leaver ready to spend a gap year learning how business really works.
At Accumen, we pride ourselves on our commitment to excellence, innovation and the success of our team. We’re a leading boutique accounting and business advisory firm in the heart of Bathurst, looking for an enthusiastic Administration Trainee to join us for a 12-month gap-year placement.
If you’ve just finished school and you’re organised, curious and keen to build practical skills before you head off to university, we want to hear from you.
What the position means for you
As Administration Trainee at Accumen, you’ll be a valued part of our close-knit team from day one. This is more than a gap-year job; it’s a chance to learn how a professional firm operates from the inside, build genuine workplace skills, and start university with experience most of your peers won’t have. In this role you will:
- Receive a competitive salary while you learn.
- Gain hands-on experience in a professional office environment.
- Be trained and supported — no prior office experience required.
- Learn and experience new tasks across every part of the business.
- Build practical skills in Microsoft Office, communication and organisation that will serve you at university and beyond.
- Work with a supportive and inspiring team who genuinely invest in developing people.
- Work in a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Work five days a week with some flexibility in hours.
- Finish the year with a strong professional reference and a real understanding of business.
Who we’re looking for
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent).
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) — we’ll build on this.
- Strong organisation and time-management skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities, and confidence speaking with people.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions and take direction.
- A positive and proactive attitude.
- Reliability and a professional approach to work.
No previous office experience is necessary — attitude and willingness to learn matter far more to us than what’s on your résumé.
Your responsibilities will include
You’ll join our friendly administration team and support the day-to-day operations of our business, working alongside experienced staff who will train and guide you. Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with the organisation and filing of office documents and records.
- Scanning, printing, mail handling and general office upkeep.
- Answering and directing phone calls and emails under supervision.
- Greeting and assisting visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assisting with data entry and basic report preparation.
- Supporting the team with client correspondence and appointment scheduling.
- Helping to keep client files accurate and up to date.
- Collaborating with team members and contributing ideas to improve office processes.
Send your résumé and a brief cover letter telling us about yourself, what you’re planning to study, and why you’d like to spend your gap year with us. Starting date: January 2027, or as otherwise agreed.
